City's first CP Modak no more

Pune's first commissioner of police E Su Modak belonging to the cadre of Imperial Police (IP) of the erstwhile British Crown passed away at his residence on Thursday. He was 90.

Born on February 25, 1920, Modak was first appointed as the superintendent of Satara police and functioned as the Pune police commissioner between June 1, 1965 and June 8, 1966. A strict disciplinarian, Modak was known for his meticulous policing skills and had bagged two President's medals, one before and the other after the Clip on charms Independence. He retired from the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1978 and stayed at his residence in Koregaon Park.
